Twice as nice.

The only thing better than having an awesome, loving grandmother cherishing you. . . .

. . . .is having two awesome, loving grandmothers cherishing you.

For reals, man.

You know? I just told my daddy the other day that, I swear, there is nothing more loving than the way a really awesome grandparent looks at his or her grandchild. (A really awesome one that really enjoys being a grandparent, that is.)  Like. . . it's almost like . . . .I don't know. . . something in your soul has to marinate for several years before it can ooze out of your eyeballs later in the form of effusive grandbaby adoration. Almost like a fine wine that doesn't the taste the same unless enough time passes. Which explains why our parents never looked at us that way.

Mmmm hmmm.

You know what? No matter how old you get, if you see it enough, that just-for-your-grandbaby-oozey-lovey-dovey-grandmama-and-granddaddy look of love is something that nobody can ever take away from you.

Nobody.

Ever.

Yeah, man. Awesome grandparents pretty much rule.

  1. And speaking from the grandma side, I just can't even explain it. It's...well, a sort of magic that's evolved, I suspect, as another way to keep the species alive.
Whatever and however, it IS a sort of magic and I feel so lucky to have lived long enough to participate in the miracle. And my grands are coming today and we're going to be having a very loving, good time.

  2. It's because we know what the prince never knew. All too soon the clock will strike midnight and they'll be gone. My biggest regret is that I spent too much damned time cleaning the floor, and not enough time down on it playing with my kids.

  3. From the deck of the Poop,

It is truly great being a grandparent and I am sure that what you say is somewhat true.. But, having data from both sides and loving my grands tons and tons, when I remember watching you guys grow up, I can't imagine me having a less loving look or feeling. So the best that I can give you is a tie. But then maybe it was because you guys were such an awesome brood.

  5. I think grandparents love their grandkids exponentially - like the love for your own kids squared . . . which means that the love for great-grandkids must be cubed, if that makes any sense . . .
