Music makes the people come together.

"You can dance. . . .for inspiration."

~ Madonna in "Get into the Groove"

Man. I wish someone had been filming me while I was watching the Superbowl Halftime Show last night. Can I please tell you about how absolutely HYPED I was to see Madonna's show? Can I? Well, since you insist. . . . .

I enjoyed every second of it. When searching for a picture, I ran across some very critical comments saying things like "she lip-synched too much" or "she's getting too old to be gallivanting across the stage like that." And to that I say, "What.Ever."

"You can dance. . . .for inspiration."

You sure can, Miss Madonna. You sure can. Oh! The best part of it was that I watched it with my good friends--and our kids. The little ones were playing Legos since some parts were a little mature for them but the older kids were right there rocking out with us. My friend Marra has an 11 year old daughter and the two of us vogued it up and struck poses--together. We were going hard, man! Full on pose-striking. . . the whole shebang. And! She had never even heard of Madonna! This made me love the halftime show even more. Totally.

"Music can be such a revelation. . . ."

Ain't that the truth.

I guess I love a good throwback, you know? A nice homage to certain eras in my life because what it really does is let me know that it's all really one big confluent era, isn't it? And if I can bring an eleven year old into the early nineties with me, then why can't she bring me into 2012 (which is exactly what she did when she explained to me who this group called LMFAO was.)

What is the point of this ramble? Oh. None whatsoever. I'm just excited that Madonna was voguing and strutting her fifty-something all over that stage like the old Madonna. My only regret was that she didn't sing "Get into the Groove!"

Happy Monday. . .. .off to the clinic to make it a Funday.

Now playing on my mental iPod. . . .

  1. I don't think you adequately conveyed how HYPED you were at the show. Please try again. Thank you.

  2. P -- Ha ha ha! You'd better be glad nobody filmed me vogue-ing. I was KILLING those poses. I'm just saying.

  3. I loved Vogue! I was less into the rest of her show. Ah well. Glad you enjoyed it!

  4. Some people with me were like, "This is whack. What is she doing up there?" OMG! I was JAMMING right along with her!!! I loved it. Everybody lip syncs at the Superbowl due to sound issues. WHO CARES??? I thought it was GREAT! Especially with Cee-Lo & LMFAO!

  5. Agreed on all counts. Madonna is amazing, and her voice sounded incredible when she was singing.

Anyone critical? Try dancing and singing at the same time--even your mediocre version--and see if you can even do it without your voice warbling and huffing and puffing.

She was an inspiration. I can't wait to see her keep aging and keep rockin.

  6. I was shoveling baby food into my niece's mouth when Madonna hit the stage. The TV was to my back but by the time Madonna started singing "Like A Prayer" I started singing along with her at the top of my lungs.

My 15 year old son and his friend were laughing.

My 3 year old niece left the room.

But the baby? She clapped and grinned and clapped some more.

Life is a mystery. Everyone must stand alone.
